Our Team

To ensure we meet the expectations of our principals and customers, MKI maintains a team of highly experienced and educated experts drawn from the industries we serve.  MKI’s staff includes five degreed electrical engineers, three MBAs, and three Professional Engineers.  Our friendly team members have extensive hands-on utility, manufacturing, and testing experience to support a variety of your electrical design needs.

Rich Matzinger

Accomplishments Expanding our team with unparalleled technical talent to serve our customers, reducing our number of lines and growing our principal’s business.
Education Studied economics at the University of California at Irvine and graduated from the USC School of Business.
Personal Developed teamwork skills leading sailboat racing teams on 2225 mile race from LA to Hawaii on five occasions, collegiate sailing national champion. Rich is married with two children.

Armando Elvira

Formerly ABB where he was account executive, responsible for sale of entire ABB T&D product portfolio for the major electric utilities in southern California. Most recently was Regional Marketing Manager in the western US for turnkey substation projects.  Prior to ABB, he was with SCE for ten years where he held positions as customer service planner, apparatus engineer, and technical specialist.
Education BSEE and MBA from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Registered Professional Engineer.
Personal Enjoys hiking, backpacking, golf and raising his son and daughter with his wife.

Matt Daniels

Experience Brings over 25 years of operations, training, installation, testing and maintenance experience with both utility and industrial high voltage applications.
Formerly Operations background including eight years with SCE, eight with a major local municipality and nine years with electrical contractors.
Personal Has an unbridled enthusiasm for our business/industry that others will find contagious. Matt is married with four boys.

Michael Nakamura

Experience Power systems including cogeneration plants, substations, protection, power quality, load shedding, and electrical safety. Expertise in the design and construction of power distribution, control, and automation systems for water and wastewater facilities. Registered Professional Electrical Engineer in California.
Formerly Senior Electrical Engineer at East Bay Municipal Utility District after five years at consulting engineering firms in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Personal Enjoys spending time with family and friends, coaching his children’s sports, fishing, and exercising.

Mike Gugerty

Formerly 22 years with SCE. Most recently Manager of Substation and Transmission Inspection. Prior roles included teaching at SCE’s school, technical support for protection and automation and test technicians.

Steve Peters

Formerly Steve has 16 years of technical sales experience including roles with Eaton/Cutler Hammer as a Sales Manager based in SoCal, Omron Electronics in Industrial Automation sales, and Cincinnati/Dynacomp as a Regional Sales Manager for industrial computers and PLC’s.
Education BSEE from the University of Arkansas and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
Personal Enjoys spending time with his wife and son, as well as coaching his son’s baseball team. Bad habits include golf, watching college sports, and snow skiing.

Greg Rauch

Formerly SEL, Four years as NorCal Sales rep after two years as NorCal Applications Engineer and three years corporate utility marketing. Application Engineer for Dranetz/BMI. Project Manager for EPRI, International Marketing Manager for GE. Distribution Engineering at PG&E.
Education BSEE and Master of Engineering from BYU.
Personal Greg is a senior member of IEEE and a registered PE in California.

Josh Barklow

Formerly GE, where he was Lead Project Engineer supporting PG&E on upgrades to Distribution and Transmission Substations. Operations Leader and Senior Field Engineer at GE Engineering Services.  Josh served aboard the U.S.S. John C. Stennis (CVN-74) aircraft carrier as a Nuclear Electrical Technician and Operator.
Education B.S. Nuclear Engineering Technology – Thomas Edison State College.  GE Field Engineer Training Program.  Registered Professional Engineer (Electrical) in the state of California
Personal Josh and his wife are raising and home-schooling their three children.  He enjoys travel, hiking, football, and the outdoors.

Formerly Inside sales Powercom where she was responsible for customer service, bidding and order processing for products used by the utility, telecom and industrial markets.

Personal Kelli, along with her husband, has a son and two daughters. Kelli is very busy with her girls’ softball teams and also an active member of her Church.

Diana Walden

Accomplishments In January, 2003, completed installation of a new order entry and order tracking computer program to facilitate prompt and accurate reporting to MKI’s customers.
Formerly Executive assistant to the Corporate Personnel Director at Bergner’s Department Stores; Assistant Interior Designer ASID.
Personal Competed in triathlons, the LA Marathon and participated in the Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk. Diana is married and has raised three children that today consist of a Chicago police officer, college student at NAU and one still growing up.

Debbie Gaddis

Formerly Twenty-six years with Maydwell-Hartzell, a manufacturer’s representative in southern California serving the electric utilities and industrial markets. Debbie brings extensive experience in order entry, order follow up and customer service.

Nikola Tesla

Accomplishments Frequently made extreme claims about science and technology that were ahead of his time – then went on to prove them.  Won AC vs. DC “War of the Currents” battle versus Thomas Edison.  Illuminated the World Fair in Chicago in 1893.  Father of Alternating Current, the modern electric power system, brushless alternating current induction motor, Tesla coil, modern power transformer, fundamental development of high frequency wireless communications, fluorescent lighting, and modern remote controls.  112 US patents and 34 International patents.
Education Earned degrees in physics, mathematics, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering from the Austrian Polytechnic Institute and the University of Prague.
Family Friends with legendary writer Mark Twain and a friendly white pigeon who visited Nikola in his New York apartment/laboratory.
